Sewing Your Own Baby Sling

In senior year, students are expected to conduct postpartum home visits on their own. Part of the duties of these home visits is to weigh the newborn and ensure they are gaining an appropriate amount of weight.

Babes don’t care if the stitching isn’t great. As long as it’s strong!

It seems old school but midwives use this traditional scale and sling method. You may see quintessential photos of midwives online holding babies at eye levels with their little toes sticking out from the behind the fabric. Adorable. Instead of buying slings online, I found a great pattern to make them myself.

The pattern only requires about a yard of fabric and there are so many amazing options for prints. I chose Wonder Woman (obviously), and a few others.

Hope you enjoy making your own!
